It may be difficult to know how a carer could fit into your life and routine. These examples of Cleeve Link carers’ typical schedules are aimed to show you how a carer can help you at home.
Sally has been a Cleeve Link carer for three years. She visits clients to help them with personal care and domestic care; this can include helping them get out of bed in the morning, reminding about medication and cooking meals.
Sally is a friendly and outgoing person, and when asked what her favourite part of the job as a carer was answered, “I like going to the same people everyday and I enjoy getting to know them.”
For people considering joining the Cleeve Link team Sally offers the following advice, “You will need patience more than anything, and good listening skills.”
Sally is highly qualified and as well as having an NVQ 2 and team leading NVQ, she is trained in the following areas:
David is from Poland and has been a Cleeve Link carer for two years. He provides personal care and domestic care, including washing and dressing clients in the morning, cooking meals, and cleaning and tidying their homes.
David says the favourite part of his job is chatting to the clients. For people considering joining the Cleeve Link team he recommends they have particular characteristics, “You will need to be patient, understanding and reliable. You will also need to plan ahead and predict what each client’s individual needs may be.”
David arrived in the UK with impressive qualifications after graduating from a care school in Poland. When he joined the team he undertook the training programme for three months. David’s English was good when he arrived and therefore he did not need the English lessons provided by Cleeve Link. However, in his own time he has chosen to go to the Gloucestershire College for English lessons and when completed he will have a GCSE A-C level qualification in English.
